Turned Taper Candle Holders

Untitled

I have a couple of more wedding gifts to share with you, including these taper candle holders that I turned from maple! I just love maple, and love how these turned out (no pun intended)!

I find that my method for working on the lathe is so much different than for other crafts. Most of my craft projects are very planned out ahead of time and it's just a matter of executing the design. For turning, I start with a vague plan, and adjust and design as I go. It's fun to watch the wood transform, and it's probably a therapeutic and healthy exercise in going-with-the-flow.

Making this project I learned that the metal inserts for the candle holders are called "ferrules." "Ferrule" sounds so much better than "the little metal thingy for the candle hole," accompanied by unintelligible (and probably inappropriate looking) hand gestures.

I was really happy with how this set came out, with my favorite candle holder being the shortest one!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

  2. I really like the design and texture on the wood and the light colour of maple. Your candle holders turned out really well!
