Doily-Along Part 2

Untitled

Ready for Part 2 everyone?! Today we are going to crochet the rest of the motifs and join them as we go!

I numbered the motifs in the doily above to give you an idea of the order that we will be joining them.

Untitled
Work 2nd motif, Rounds 1-4, the same as the first motif (you can refer back to Part 1 if you need to).
Work the last round as follows: Join Color B, in any picot, with a dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, ch 1, skip 1 loop (3 dc, ch 9, 3 dc) in next loop, ch 1, skip 1 loop, (3 dc, ch3, 3 dc) in next picot, ch 1, skip 1 loop, 3 dc in next loop, ch 4...

Untitled
sl st to center chain stitch of any large loop of center motif, (I slip stitch into the top two loops of the chain stitch, just as if I was to crochet into a regular stitch)...

Untitled
ch 4, 3 dc in same space of 2nd motif...

Untitled
ch 1, skip 1 loop, 3 dc in next picot, ch 1, slip stitch into corresponding loop of center motif, (slip stitch into the ch 3 loop, not the center chain stitch)...

Untitled
ch 1, 3 dc in same space of 2nd motif...

Untitled
ch 1, skip 1 loop, 3 dc in next loop, ch 4, slip stitch to center chain stitch of next large loop of center motif, ch 4, 3 dc in same space of 2nd motif...

Untitled
ch 1, skip 1 loop, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next picot, work remainder of motif same as center motif.

Don't forget that you may want to be sewing in ends as you finish each motif!

Untitled
Join 3rd motif to center and 2nd motifs in the same manner. To do so, first join to next large loop of 1st (center) motif, and work towards the 2nd motif.

Untitled
When you reach the next large loop, slip stitch into the same chain stitch of 1st motif, where you slip stitched when working the 2nd motif.

Untitled
Continue joining to the 2nd motif, and then finish the 3rd motif as normal.

Untitled
Join the 4th, 5th and 6th motifs in the same manner, (joining first to the center motif, and then the previous motif).

Untitled
The last motif will be joined on three sides. First join to the 2nd motif...

Untitled
then join to the center motif, and then the 6th motif (slip stitching into the same center chain stitches of the large loops of the center motif, as you did with the previous motifs).

Untitled
You should now have 7 motifs joined together! (Once you get the hang of how they join together, you can make your doily any size you want! For this tutorial I'm going to keep mine this size, but I can picture a longer runner made from this pattern...)

Untitled
And remember, it won't look perfect (yet)! Mine looks very crumpled at this stage!

How'd it go? If you have any questions or run into any problems just let me know!

We'll meet back here on Wednesday for Part 3, where we'll work the edge!
