It's a Him, Mario... and Sonic!

Know any Mario or Sonic fans?  If so, you need to check out these amazing patterns!!  You can find them, (Mario and Sonic), and many others at WolfDreamer.  I made these for Christmas for two big fans! Want to see some more pictures of these guys?

First Christmas Ornaments

Remember the embroidery I made for my friend's wedding?  Well, for Christmas I made her ornaments based on that wedding embroidery which was based on her wedding invitation which was based on, just kidding, which was made by Kelly Thorn.

A Little Cuckoo

So I've had this idea to make a faux cuckoo clock for awhile, and I got my chance when I heard my friend and her boyfriend were able to get their own apartment sans roommates, which is very exciting!  And nothing says "exciting" quite like a cuckoo clock right?  Right.

Christmas Ornaments

I thought I'd kick start the Christmas crafts posts with some Christmas ornaments!  I made twelve of these to add to presents.  I for one like getting a new ornament every year to add to the collection!

Silver and Gold

I had a lovely Christmas and am so excited that I can start to share some of the things I've worked on in the past month or two!  First, I thought I'd show you our Christmas table that my sister and I (quickly) put together.  Our theme was "silver and gold."

Throw Me a Bone

Still need some gift inspiration for the crafter on your list?  If you know someone who likes paper projects, a bone folder is a must!  At least I think so!

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

I'm not sure if this little bit of snow is here to stay or not...  I'd be a sad panda without a white Christmas!

Speaking of a white Christmas, do you guys like the movie White Christmas (with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye)?  I'm not usually one for musicals, but this one works and it's pretty funny!  (I saw it's on Netflix!)  Another movie I can't go without seeing this time of year is Claymation Christmas.  When I was little we watched it on vhs tape... recorded from tv!!  You can't imagine how excited we were the year we found it on dvd!  It's hilarious, amazing and it's because of this movie that I can't make it through the song We Three Kings without giggling...

What are your favorite winter holiday movies?

Safe-Travel-Home-For-Christmas Totem

I realized I can show you guys something without ruining a surprise!  This is an ornament I made for my sister and brother-in-law... It's a have-a-safe-travel-home-for-Christmas horse totem!  In Native American culture horses represent, among other things, travel.

I almost forgot today was Tuesday!!  Not that this picture is any indication of how I've been feeling as of late... haha!!

Hope you're all doing well out there and hope your heads aren't spinning too badly due to holiday preparations!

Stuck on Craft Bond

Hey, what's this?  A blog post on glue?  Seriously?  Seriously.  When you go to glue something and it doesn't glue... well, an un-sticky situation is no laughing matter!  So when I go to work on on a paper project (say card making), I always turn to Elmer's Craft Bond glue sticks for my adhering needs!  I've found that plain old regular glue sticks just don't work on certain types of paper, like magazine paper for example.  I've used Craft Bond with success on cardstock, brown craft paper, magazines, used book pages, old calendars, junk mail...

And when I don't feel like getting my fingers all sticky, I turn to the adhesive squares.  I love using the double-sided adhesive squares for scrapbooking because they aren't messy (although the little square backs you peel off the adhesive squares can get blown all over creating a bit of a mess...), you usually only need one square in each of the photo's corners, and they are acid-free (which means they won't hurt or discolor your photos).

I've used other brands of the adhesive squares, and find them all to work great, but when it comes to glue sticks, I will faithfully stick by Elmer's Craft Bond!  Do you guys have a go-to glue?

Shear Love

Since I can't show you the gifts I'm working on yet (I'd hate to ruin the surprises!), I thought it might be fun to share with you some of my favorite crafting tools and supplies.  Perhaps you'll find some gift ideas for the crafter on your list!  Today I'm sharing with you how I feel about my Gingher Embroidery Scissors.  And what better way to do so than with a letter?

(E.E. Cummings was the answer [or shall I say question?] to Final Jeopardy the other night...  I guess I still have poetry on the brain!)

Color Me Crazy!

Just popping in quick to say "hi!"  It's going to get a little tricky trying to find things to post as I'm working on a ton of gifts at the moment!! Well, I'm off to do some painting! I'd love to hear what you guys are making!

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

After Thanksgiving and a couple of late nights, I'm still feeling a bit like Sneaky Pete here... tired but happy!  I had fun with my family, saw some friends, played games with my three favorite boys, did a little bit of Christmas shopping, and helped decorate the tree.  Now it's really time to get my Christmas craft on!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you all had a lovely thanksgiving, ate lots of yummy food, and were thankful for the family and friends you spent it with!  I have a few shots of our table set for sixteen if you'd like to see!

This week's Photo-Tuesday is going to be a little different.  I'm going to show you this really cool storage bench that my dad made as a gift for some friends of ours.

Shellac is Wack!

To go with our natural and geometric Thanksgiving theme, here are some candleholders I made!  I kept them simple with just white so that they can be used for Christmas as well!

Personalized Block Set

I recently made this set of blocks for a friend to give as a gift to a couple who just had a baby!  The blocks can spell their daughter's full name and birthday, and of course make lots of different designs...

What follows is a mix of pictures from my phone and digital camera...  I was going to put captions with each one, but maybe together they will tell a story themselves.

Arrrrr Train Scrapghan Block

While visiting my sister in NYC, we didn't have time to craft something together for Trish's Craft-Along Party, sad face.  There was too much shopping and talking (happy face)!  However, we did do a lot of talking about Christmas crafting, and I bought some jewelry making supplies!

Happy Weekend!

Hey guys, before I leave for Brooklyn this weekend, I wanted to leave you with a quick sneak peek of my next project and mention a craft-along party that's happening this weekend over at genuine mudpie!  If you've been looking for an excuse to make or try something new or finish something you've already started, the craft-along party is it! Hopefully my sister and I will find some crafting time so we can party too!

Hope you have a wonderfully whimsical weekend!

Thanksgiving Napkins!

Ready for the next Thanksgiving project after the jute trivets?  Painted napkins!  We decided on white, rusty orange and gold for our color theme, and of course, how could I do anything without throwing in some geometric shapes!  Want to know how I did them?

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

I've been a little busy with Christmas, Thanksgiving and birthday projects, which means I haven't been able to take many pictures!  But I do have this little Christmas project sneak peek...

Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!!

I Came, I Saw, I Conquered, and I Grannied

I haven't posted since Wednesday, so you may be wondering if I lost the battle with my Snaggle Monster!  I'm happy to report, after a mighty struggle, I have come out on top!  To further clinch my victory I started to make some Granny Arrows blocks.  Take that Snaggle Monster!!

Although I have won the battle, the war is far from over...  Next up is sewing in those pesky ends.  However, I do have a little start on it! Just look at those beauties.  Grannies just make me happy!

Are you guys engaged in any crafting battles?

Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween everyone!  I thought in true Halloween fashion I should post something scary...  It just so happens I found something truly frightening in my yarn basket.  Now, fellow crafters, if you are faint of heart, you may not want to continue reading.  But if you dare, what follows is pure terror...

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

I've scheduled this post ahead of time seeing as how we'll most likely lose power due to Frankenstorm...  This picture is from Monday afternoon when it has just started to sprinkle and the wind has picked up a little. Hope everyone who's in its path stays safe!!!

Hey Jute, Don't Make it Bad

I've been emailing back and forth with my sister in Brooklyn about Thanksgiving.  When we hear "holiday dinner," we immediately think of the table and the crafting opportunities...  We've already come up with some colors and elements we'd like to incorporate and Gin has even set up a Thanksgiving '12 Inspiration board on Pinterest.  I also thought I could share our projects and ideas with you as we go!

Hope Your Halloween is a Hoot!

At first I had no idea what I was going to carve into my pumpkin... Then I thought it would be remiss of me not to do an owl!

Have you carved any pumpkins or have any fun halloween plans?

Under Wildwood Scrapghan Block

As we're nearing colder and colder weather, (although I heard it's supposed to be close to 70 this weekend... weird), I want to make sure I have enough blocks to start putting my scrapghan together!  Curling up under a blanket with a fire going and a nice cup of tea in hand... oh where was I?  Ah yes, so I've made another block inspired by a book I recently finished.

The Mark of Athena Scrapghan Block

I thought it was about time I made another block for my scrapghan based on a book.  I recently read devoured The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus, Book 3) by Rick Riordan, and LOVED it.

Granny Arrows Tutorial- Part 2: On the Diag

Alright, ready for Part 2: On the Diag?  If you've already done Part 1, I think this should be fairly easy.  If you haven't done Part 1, I think you could still follow this tutorial!

New Orleans Runner

Here's my latest finished doily project!  I made this runner from the New Orleans Bedspread Pattern.  I think it's a great (free!) vintage pattern, and very easy to understand!

Granny Arrows Tutorial- Part 1: Basic Block

I'm going to split up the Granny Arrows Tutorial into three parts.  This is Part 1, the basic block.  Part 2 will be the two colored diagonal version, and Part 3 will include ideas for joining the blocks, with a tutorial for the join-as-you-go method.  Hope you like it!

Tutorials in Progress

Just popped in to let you know I'm working on a couple of tutorials to share with you.  I haven't done one in awhile, so I'm starting with the little mandala inspired block from this post to work my way up to the larger tutorial for the Granny Arrows block...  If you don't hear from me for a few days this is why!

Hope you all have a wonderful and creative weekend!

Granny Arrows Test Squares

I've been playing around with a new granny square type pattern...  I'm calling it "Granny Arrows" because to me some of the stitches look like, well, arrows.  I also think there are many directions you could take this pattern (see what I did there? haha).  Let me know what you think of my different experimentations...

These were taken Saturday on a boat ride in between rain showers.  Despite the rain and the fact that the day was supposed to be a washout, it was really beautiful...

WIP and a few other things...

Just thought I'd give you a little peek at a project I'm working on...  I'll give you the details soon!  But before I go, I have just a couple of things to tell you:

I've recently joined the world in pinning wondrous things from around the web.  There's a Pinterest button on the right side of the page if you're interested in seeing what I pin...

I also need to apologize for having to make you prove that you aren't robots when you leave a comment on the blog...  I just got fed up with all of the spam comments I was getting!

Lastly, I hope you all have a really fabulous weekend!
