I just love making baby blankets because they are great nearly instant gratification projects. For this one I was so excited for the excuse to try a square pattern that I kept seeing.

It's finished! I know I tend to take pictures of my feet, but in this case I only did to create a sense of scale. (Although I suppose that's not helpful, because for all you know I might have abnormally small or large feet... [I don't though, they are fairly average].) The rug ended up 40 inches in diameter.

Hey everyone! Is your summer going as fast as mine? Before any more time slips away, I thought I'd show you a new project that I started. My mom was out west for a bit of the summer, and she brought me back some Pendleton Wool selvages so that I could make her a rug...

Being so pleased about how my bunny and bear turned out, I thought I'd try to make a few more animals! There's something so satisfying about making your own patterns. Maybe it's the problem solving aspect or maybe it just taps into something deeper like a desire to manifest the mind's ideas? Anyways, here's a few more pictures...

I just love it when a plan comes together and my drawings come to life! I was commissioned to make these for a baby shower gift, and was excited for the excuse to build upon my last attempts at some amigurumi patterns. (Remember my last bunny and bear?) I think I might have nailed it this time, but I would love some feedback!

Here's the doily that I made for my Mom for Mother's Day. The pattern is #26 from Motif Lace Doilies by Nihon Vogue, a lovely Japanese crochet book. (Ravelry page here.) Great pattern, which I thought could look nice with two colors to really make the little 3D flower in the center pop!

Happy Tuesday! Aren't violets just lovely! This is one of my Mom's. She has five plants and I'm amazed that they are all so different from one another, in flower colors and leaves!
(They are the inspiration for a project I'm going to show you soon...)
Hope you are all having a wonderful week!

I've seen so many beautiful #rusticlacesquare pieces all over Instagram and Pinterest, and couldn't resist any longer! A quick Google or Pinterest search will lead you to a pattern diagram (like here). It seems like this square is an older pattern with an unknown designer. A lot of people are making blankets from it, and I thought it could be lovely done in thread to top a table! (I'm using size 10 crochet thread and a 1.65mm hook.)
What are you working on?

Working from the bunny I just made, I've come up with some bear modifications. I did attempt to change the legs a bit as per some suggestions from the bunny, but nothing worked out right, so I kept the same body structure. I just made a little muzzle, some bear ears, and an itty bitty tail...

Just popping in quick as I'm actually on a little vacation in California! The weather has been beautiful! And, you know me, I can't travel without a hook and yarn, so I've enjoyed the free time for some fun crochet... This adorable happy elephant is from another fantastic Mongoreto pattern. I just love her patterns; you could say I'm "hooked!" Ok, that was a terrible pun.
Hope you are all doing well! What's on your hooks?

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Today I finally finished this blanket that has been sitting around for about a year. Feels so good to have it done, and I love the result!
I used a Little Doolally pattern for a pinwheel cushion. I made the squares one round smaller, and I used a size J hook with Vanna's Choice yarn. After arranging 81 squares into a 9x9 square and crocheting a border of 3 rows of double crochet, (and lightly blocking it), the blanket measured about 72 inches square.
My favorite part was arranging the squares. It was a very technical process. No, I'm kidding. I threw all the squares in a pile and pulled one at a time randomly, placed it on the floor, and turned it to my liking. Organized chaos. I love it!
What about you? Do you like a random look, or prefer a more patterned look?

If you are in need of a quick, cute, and functional gift, try making your own mini dry erase boards! I made 12 of these for Christmas gifts after seeing similar projects on Pinterest. I wanted to get my parents something to replace their note-leaving system of writing on post it notes, little notepads, and backs of envelopes when the little notepads got too full. Then I thought, who couldn't use a cute place to write down reminders, to-do lists or leave messages for family members?
All you have to do is get some picture frames (I got 5x7 frames at Hobby Lobby), cut some cute scrapbook paper to fit into the frames (try to pick colors or patterns that aren't too busy for a nice background), assemble, get some dry erase markers, and write away! The dry erase markers wipe off the glass like a dream!

Happy Groundhog Day everyone! Did you hear that the groundhog didn't see his shadow? That hasn't happened in years! I'll take that as a pretty auspicious sign for my birthday today! I'm spending the afternoon enjoying the sun through the window with a little crochet and some tea. Pretty nice!
Have a great one my friends!

This was a Christmas present that I finally finished this past weekend. I felt so bad, and I was so relieved to get it done. But boy was it a bear, no pun intended, to make! It wasn't necessarily difficult, but there were so many pieces and parts to make it just plain fiddly!

Hey everyone, I'm throwing back to this past Thanksgiving. I realized I never posted our table and our first shibori-ish project... probably because my mom and I were slightly bummed about the final result. Don't get me wrong, I love how our table looked, but our napkins and runners got a little washed out in the washing machine. Live and learn, right? Here's some more pictures though:

Today I repotted my 12 baby succulents that I propagated from one of my plants. (You can see them way back here!) They all survived (knock on wood!) and almost all of them have dropped the leaves that they grew from. I got the tiny little terra cotta pots and the hexagon dish at Hobby Lobby, making a pretty cute and functional little set up! I'm hoping they'll be much happier in their own little homes.
I'm learning to find joy in small accomplishments like this, especially when I have several bigger projects that aren't completed yet. In my mad crafting dash to Christmas I was unable to finish a a gift and am still struggling to see the light at the end of the crochet tunnel. But I think continually plugging away at it, and finding time to finish other small projects at the same time will allow the positive creative juices to keep flowing! That's the plan at least!
What's been making you smile?

Happy New Year friends! I still can't believe we're already into 2016! In wishing you a happy New Year, I thought I'd share this unicorn I made for Christmas since I hope everyone's year is going to be a magical one filled with lots of fun and surprises!
