Crochet Hook Review

Untitled

Boye recently gave me some of their new hooks to try out.  I was going to mention this particular hook in a post along with what I made with it, but I was really impressed and felt it deserved a post of its own.  So, I apologize to the non-crocheters out there for a boring post, but for the crocheters out there, maybe I have some helpful information!

I had never used any hooks with handles on them, so I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical about these new ergonomic handled hooks!  This particular hook is the same hook as my most used one (my Boye aluminum J [6mm] hook), except with a soft (but not squishy) rubber handle.  At first it did feel a bit different at first, but once I got used to it I noticed I wasn't gripping the crochet hook as hard as I usually do.  It felt pretty natural. After crocheting for awhile I sometimes find my pinky finger on my hook hand starts to hurt from wrapping around the hook.  I don't see that happening with this one!

So, if you have problems with your hook hand cramping up or hurting after awhile, you may want to try this ergonomic hook (Boye has them in sizes B [2.25mm] through N [9mm])!  I must say, I think I'm hooked! (Ok, bad pun, sorry.)  And tomorrow I will show you what I made with it!

What kind of hooks do you guys like to use?  Are you fans of handles on your hooks?

  1. I like metallic hooks. I've tried the ones with handles from Clover and they are good, too!!!!
    Tomorrow I'll be here again!!!

  2. Very interesting to read your hook review, Kate. Those handle hooks look comfortable. I am not pleased with the hooks I have, even though they have hard rubber handles, the metal part of the hook becomes loose in the handle and wobbles. I was wondering what sort of hook to buy to replace my present wobbly ones. I can only use ones that give the sizes in millimetres because I don't understand the sizes of your letter-based sizes!!

  3. I get really sore fingers from knitting and crocheting. They sometimes sort-of get stuck! This ma be a good thing to try out. Thanks for the tip, Kate! Have a good weekend!

  4. I've been thinking about buying one of these, but I'm not quite sure about it because we handle the hook in a different way here in Brazil and I'm not sure if I'll feel comfortable with these.
Anyway, maybe I'll try (love to experiment new stuff!)
    Thanks for the post!

  6. My hands rebel after a while too. It sounds like this hook would really help. I will have to try one. Thanks for the review.

  7. I have a couple of wooden handled hooks from Yarnology from Hobby Lobby. I have used them and like them but the handles make the hooks a little longer as the handle starts after the flat part where you hold it. That one your picture looks way shorter. I will have to look for it and try it.

    1. You're welcome! I feel the same way, and am hesitant to buy something until I've read some reviews by people who've used it!
