Motif 5 Blanket Tutorial

Untitled

I've been plugging away at my scrap blanket using the Abstract Flower Motif No. 5 pattern (with worsted weight yarn and a 6mm hook). A few of you have asked how to do the joining motif, so I thought I'd put together a little tutorial on how I'm joining the circle motifs, and making the little joining motifs.

Untitled
The circle motifs are joined by 3 picots on each side, and joined as you crochet the last round. Start your first of 3 joining picots over a single crochet from the round before.

Untitled
Start your picot with a ch 1, remove hook, insert hook through picot of motif you are joining to, pick loop back up and draw through...

Untitled
Ch 1...

Untitled
And complete your picot.

Untitled
*3 sc in next ch space, sc in next 3dc cluster, and repeat above steps for the next picot join, and repeat from * once more - 3 picot joins complete! Got the hang of it?

Untitled
Make sure to leave one picot free before joining the second side of your circle motif.

Untitled
Ok, on to the little joining motif! Start with 8 sc in magic circle, sl st to first sc.

Untitled
**Ch 2, remove hook, insert into a free picot, pick loop back up and pull loop through...

Untitled
Ch 2, sl st back into same st, sl st into next st.

Untitled
Ch 5, remove hook, insert hook behind picot join, pick loop back up and pull through...

Untitled
Ch 5, sl st in same st, sl st in next st... repeat from ** around, sl st in first sc.

Untitled
And there's your completed joining motif!

I hope this mini-tute makes sense, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to email me (signedwithanowl@gmail.com). I'm always willing to help! If you have a go at this, I'd love to hear about it!

    1. Thanks so much! It certainly has the "unique" thing going for it with all those colors! I'm hoping with all the colors it gets to that point where it is so crazy that it works haha!
      Have a fantastic weekend Liz!
