Triangles Scrapghan Block

Untitled

With cooler weather starting to show its face, I'm thinking more about projects I can curl up under.  So I thought I'd add another block to my scrapghan, this time showing my love of triangles.

Untitled

I made four blocks from the pattern Motif #112 from Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs by Edie Eckman, joined them with a whipstitch and single crocheted around the edge.

You use two colors on each round, and you're supposed to be able to finish the square without cutting the yarn on either color until the end (which would only leave four ends to sew in)... But I couldn't figure out how to do it!  I felt like there was going to be strange yarn pieces showing at the joins, so I just had more ends to sew in.  If anyone has done this square I'd love to learn how to do it right!  I think an entire blanket of these half triangle squares would be really cool!

Have a wonderful weekend my friends!

  4. Lovely triangles! So simple yet so effective. I like the finish of the whip stitch join, it's so nice and smooth.

  5. Great square! Being a quilter I love those half square triangles. You can make so many fun designs with them.

  6. I love the idea of a project you can curl up under in the brisk weather. I haven't made a blanket in years. maybe I should start one this fall...

A blanket was actually my very first crochet project ever. The whole thing was done in single crochet. It is so funny to look at now... it's all uneven and lopsided, bust still so cozy.

  8. When I change colour I incorporate the spare yarn into the first stitch, by looping it round my hook. It makes an extra loop on the hook but I just pull through yarn as usual. It makes the stitch a little thicker but does not show on finished block.

    1. (Sorry it took so long to respond!!) The instructions are in the book that I linked to in the post. The pattern, motif #112 is in Edie Eckman's book Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs.
