Materials

4 colors of worsted weight cotton yarn (I used Lily Sugar'n Cream in White, Yellow, Hot Green, and Mod Blue.)

Size H (5mm) hook

(Of course you could try any other weight yarn and an appropriate hook!)

Directions (Written in US Crochet Terms)

With Color A

Rnd 1- In magic circle, ch 3, 11 dc, sl st to top of ch 3, fasten off.

Rnd 2- Join Color B in any st with a sc, ch 3, (sc, ch 3) in next st and each st 

       around, sl st to first sc, fasten off.

Rnd 3- Join Color C in any ch 3 space, ch 3, dc in same space, ch 1, 

       (2 dc, ch 1) in next ch 3 space and each ch 3 space around, sl st to top 

       of ch 3, fasten off.

Rnd 4- Join Color D in any ch 1 space, ch 3, 2 dc in same space, ch 2, 

       (3 dc, ch 2) in next ch 1 space and each ch 1 space around, sl st to top 

       of ch 3, fasten off.

Rnd 5- Join Color B with a sc in first dc of any 3 dc group, sc in each of next 

       2 sts, 2 sc in ch 2 space, (sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next ch 2 space) 

       around, sl st to first sc, fasten off.

Rnd 6- Join Color A in any sc, ch 6, tr in same st, skip 2 sts, *(tr, ch 2, tr) in 

       next st, skip 2 sts, repeat from * around, sl st to 4th ch of ch 6, fasten 

       off.

Rnd 7- Join Color C in any ch 2 space, ch 3, 2 dc in same space, ch 2, 

       (3 dc, ch 2) in next ch 2 space and each ch 2 space around, sl st to top 

       of ch 3, fasten off.

Rnd 8- Join Color D with sc in any middle dc of 3 dc group, sc in next sc, 

       2 sc in next ch 2 space, *sc in each of next 3 dc, 2 sc in next ch 2 space, 

       repeat from * around, ending with sc in last sc, sl st to first sc, DON'T 

       fasten off.

Rnd 9- Ch 4, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in same st, skip 4 sts, 

       *[(dc, ch 1) 5 times, dc] in next st, skip 4 sts, repeat from * around, sl st 

       to 3rd ch of ch 4, fasten off.

Rnd 10- Join Color B with sc in first ch 1 space of shell, 

       (2 sc in next ch 1 space) 3 times, sc in next ch 1, sl st over and in 

       between middle 2 sc's of Rnd 8, *sc in next ch 1 space, 

       (2 sc in next ch 1 space) 3 times, sc in next ch 1, sl st over and in 

       between middle 2 sc's of Rnd 8, repeat from * around, sl st to first sc, 

       fasten off, sew in ends.

Block if desired. (I lightly pinned out my motifs, sprayed them with water and let them dry over night.)
