Thanksgiving in the Sticks

Untitled

Next up for Thanksgiving are some stick bouquets!  Yes, I may be crazy, but I like them!!

First I went outside to collect some sticks.  I was able to get some that were mostly smooth, and I used some sandpaper on the ones that weren't.  For paint, I used the same terra cotta and gold acrylic paint from the napkins with the addition of white.  Then I used some artist's varnish to finish and seal them.

For a little texture, I Mod Podged some jute (same as I used for the trivets) onto a couple of the larger sticks.

I like the look of the white and clear vases together.

Hopefully the five little vases and the large vase will spread out nicely across the two 8 foot tables we're planning on using.

And I just couldn't stop after the bouquets...  So I painted some larger sticks as well to spread out on the table.  I also added some jute to a couple of these.

This project would have probably been fairly quick for anybody else...  I found painting the sticks so relaxing that I think it slowed down my painting speed considerably.  I also felt compelled to make them look perfect, which required several coats of paint and a super steady smooth hand for the stripes.  I'm such a dork!  I guess I find it easy to get carried away in whatever I'm working on...

Stay tuned for some candleholders!
