Mewtwo

Untitled

So here's another crocheted doll I made for Christmas. I was asked to make the Pokemon Mewtwo. I couldn't find a Mewtwo pattern, so I tweaked Wolfdreamer's cute Mew pattern a little bit...

Photo-Tuesday

Untitled

Today I'm sharing some shots I took Sunday on my walk on the lake. I thought my photos were going to reflect the openness and expansiveness that is felt walking around out there where I usually paddle, but instead I was drawn to the lines, textures and shadows on the ice and snow. Close up through my lens I could almost imagine alien landscapes...

Sunday Smiles

Untitled

Did you all have a great weekend? Mine certainly flew by, but I was able to take a walk out on the lake today and enjoy the sun and not-so-cold weather! I also spent a little time experimenting with some crochet after being inspired by some vintage quilt blocks. Fingers crossed, but I think it's working!

Earlier in the week I was really excited because The Boxtrolls came out on dvd. I had really wanted to see it in the theater, but it didn't happen, so I couldn't wait to get it! The movie was made by Laika which made Coraline and ParaNorman (both of which I loved). It's cute, funny, and I just love the fact that it's stop motion animation! It's amazing to watch and realize that everything you are looking at was made by hand, and the characters were moved for every frame... And it had a nice message too!

As a tie into the Sunday Smiles from two weeks ago, the day I got the dvd, I ended up seeing an older episode of Treehouse Masters where they made a Boxtrolls treehouse! Well, there was no question; I had to watch the movie that night!

I hope you have a week full of smiles my friends!

Knuckles the Echidna

IMG_8633

For Christmas I had a request to make Knuckles the Echidna (a character from Sonic the Hedgehog). So I turned to the WolfDreamer, since I've made her Sonic and Tails dolls. Using those two patterns and tweaking things here and there, I was able to come up with a somewhat close Knuckles.

Happy Tuesday my friends! I have a couple of shots from yesterday to share with you. I was out in search of ice, and also found some cute chickadees!

Sunday Smiles

Untitled

I've been smiling today because I've been enjoying a little fire in my fireplace! While doing so I was able to listen to some podcasts (Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Ted Radio Hour, Mysterious Universe, The Accidental Creative and Invisibilia) and work on a couple of crochet projects (a blanket and a scarf, both of which I'll share soon).

There's something so meditative about a fire. Watching the flames and listening to the crackling is so relaxing. In fact, I think I hear it calling me to do a little reading and writing in front of it before bed...

Hope you had a lovely weekend my friends!

Regency Doily

Untitled

The much anticipated doily I alluded to in this post is here! If it's not "much anticipated," just play along. This doily is from the pattern "Regency" No. 7809 from the Star Book No. 78, Television and Radio Scarfs. (This is the same book that I did my "Doily-Along" from!)

Sunday Smiles

Untitled

I'm hoping this doesn't sound shallow, but there's a tv show that really makes me smile. I don't watch a lot of tv, (and I try to keep the amount of time spent watching the news down to a minimum as it tends to bring me down), but I just love Treehouse Masters. Have you seen it?! This show makes me smile for a couple of reasons.

First of all, I just love treehouses. I don't have one, but a treehouse would be my dream house. I think my love of them started after I saw The Swiss Family Robinson as a kid! There's just something so fun and exciting about them, not to mention the close relationship they have to nature! If you've been around here for a little while, it's no shocker that I'm a big fan of trees.

Another reason I love this show, is you get to watch the creative process. Creating custom works of art is like fun problem solving. Or at least I think so! It's fun to see what Pete Nelson (the host of the show) designs up after seeing the trees he has to work with on the property, and what the clients want, adding such personal touches that perfectly tailor the treehouses to the clients.

Watching Pete Nelson in general is just fun. (I apologize for you using the word "fun" so much!) He is so upbeat, enthusiastic, excited, and obviously loves what he's doing. It's very inspiring to watch someone who's following their bliss.

What about you? Are you as obsessed with treehouses as I am? What tv shows make you smile?

Hope you all have a fun week!

(Blue) Golden Citrus Doily (and No Hammer Pants)

Untitled

STOP! It's Doily Time! (Can you hear the M.C. Hammer music?) Just trying to make this post a little more exciting for the non-doily lovers (if you can believe there are such people) out there. I'm afraid I'm not wearing any Hammer pants (or am I?!), so this is probably where the excitement ends. But for those of you who are more doily-inclined, you may want to keep reading. (If you are not interested in doilies, I certainly won't stop you from continuing to read, but don't say I didn't warn you of a lack of interesting content.)

Christmas Ornament Exchange

Untitled

One of my family's favorite Christmas traditions is watching Claymation Christmas. Until we discovered the long-awaited dvd of the Christmas special a few years ago, we would watch a VHS tape of it that was recorded off the tv. Now if that doesn't show you how much we loved it, I don't know what else to say to bring the point across! So when I was to be involved in a Christmas ornament exchange with my friends, I thought "wouldn't it be cool if I could make the bell from the Carol of the Bells clip, and wouldn't it be even cooler if I could make it hit itself with the mallet?"

Photo-Tuesday

Untitled

It feels like ages since I've done a Photo-Tuesday post, and I must admit that I feel like I'm cheating by posting photos from a couple of weeks ago! But, until I get back into the swing of things, I shall make do with what I have! So here are a couple of shots from our Christmas dinner table...

Sunday Smiles

Untitled

Happy New Year!!! How have you guys been? I haven't been around here much because I decided I needed to "unplug" for a bit. I thought taking some time off from the internet would allow me to come back refreshed and with added vigor!

As you can see in the picture above, I'm starting off the New Year by making thank you's. I got some amazing and thoughtful gifts from friends and family, and have been berating myself for waiting this long to write thank you cards!

Speaking of thanks, I also want to thank you all for reading along and encouraging me this past year. I think this past year has been a journey of personal growth, and I hope this year will be even more so. With a resolve to let go of past perceptions of myself, I hope to be open to new adventures and possibilities, therefore inspiring more creativity... and I hope you'll join me!

Wishing you all an exciting New Year, and I'm looking forward to many more smiles this year with you!
