My Sister Knows Me All Too Well

Untitled

In my final stage of a little project, the dreaded sewing-in-ends stage, I realized it was the perfect opportunity to show you what my sister had made me for my birthday!  I'm not sure yet what to call it as it deserves some sort of epic name, something better than End Catcher-Pincushion-Scissor Holder-Thinga-Ma-Bob...  But how cool is it?!  The pincushion part is weighted so that it can sit on the edge of a desk or table, or on the arm of a chair or couch, it can hold my needle, any pins, my favorite little Gingher scissors, and all the little ends that get cut off those crochet projects.  I usually end up with little piles of those pesky ends all over the place (and then end up trailing them around the house accidentally), and if I'm sitting on the couch working, I end up sticking the poor couch arm with my needle and losing my scissors between the cushions...  But not now!!  Everything is conveniently in one place, all nice and organized, something I desperately need haha!!

(Oh, you can also see part of a painting she also made me!  I'll have to show you the whole thing when it gets hung on a wall somewhere!  She also made me the most adorable zipper pouches which as I unwrapped, I kept discovering one inside the next... pretty awesome.)

Do you guys have any tips or tricks when it comes time for sewing in ends?  Are you someone who has enough self control to sew in ends as you go, or are you like me who crochets (or knits) like mad and then has a million ends to sew in when you're done?

I know, more black and white...  but I just can't help it!

Have a fantastic day my fabulous friends!

Crafting Yourself: Visual Reminders

Untitled

Hello my dear friends, today I thought I'd talk about making visual reminders.  Whether it's something to make you smile, something you need to remember or words you want to live by, seeing a little reminder everyday can help put you in the right mindset!  I sewed up this Kurt Vonnegut quote with wool felt...

My sister and brother in law came up from Brooklyn for the weekend and we had a great time!  I have a few shots from an early birthday dinner we did for my sister, and from a snowshoe/cross country ski excursion my mom, sister and I did...

Happy Valentine's Day!

"A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved." -Kurt Vonnegut

(That's a quote from one of my favorites, and something we should think about everyday!)

Pencil Holder Makeover

Untitled

Do you have some mesh office supplies in dire need of a new look?  All you have to do is grab some yarn and a needle and start stitching!

Yesterday I had some errands to run in town, so I brought my camera along with me.  I snapped until I couldn't move my fingers any more. Literally.  It was pretty cold.  I called it quits when I couldn't press my shutter button any more!  Anyways, these are my favorite shots from my fairly short outing!

Crafting Yourself: New Paint

Untitled

I had a pretty awful weekend, and I'm not saying that to fish for sympathy, and I'm not going to talk about what happened.  But I will share with you what I found to be a little therapeutic, in the chance that if any of you ever find your world turned upside down, you might be able to try a similar project to help distract yourself and even to help you look at things in a new light.

Minecraft Afghan

I recently made this Minecraft Creeper blanket for one of my favorite boys who just turned 9!  He's the biggest Minecraft fan I know!

I got these flowers from my boyfriend (yeah, he's a keeper), for my birthday (which was on Sunday [yeah, I'm a groundhog]), and they have been the perfect thing to deal with the groundhog's prediction of six more weeks of winter!  In fact, I'm on such a flower kick that I just ordered The Flower Recipe Book with an amazon.com gift card!  I read about it this past summer and have been lusting after it ever since...  If you haven't heard about the book, you really should go take a look!  The flowers and photography are just beautiful!

Anyways, I hope you all had a great weekend!  I had the best birthday weekend with Nehill and my parents!  We didn't have any special plans, but when you're with the right people anything feels special!

Hope you all have a special day my friends!
